Recently cyclone Michaung ravaged Chennai. The Tamil Nadu government, on the basis of accurate prediction by the Meteorological Center quickly formulated and executed an intensive rescue operation.
Even the Union Government's inspection committee has praised it. Before the relief to Chennai's sufferers had been completed, one district after another has received torrential rains over and over again. It rained one month's quantum of rain in a day. For four days, villages have been flooded and 10 people have died. But as for it raining like this, the Meteorological Department never announced that. But rescue operations are proceeding frantically.
Therefore Chief Minister M.K.Stalin met Prime Minister Modi last night and informed about the flood, demanding that relief funds be allocated immediately as soon as possible. He urged Prime Minister Modi to offer temporary relief (to Chennai floods only) of Rs 7,033 crore and permanent relief of Rs 12.659 as soon as possible; he also asked that the Prime Minister immediately allocate an emergency fund worth Rs. 2000 crore. Prime Minister Modi says that the Union Government is willing to give a helping hand, and it should spend generously toward rescuing Tamil Nadu from this flood.
In the past, when there was a calamity, people were asked for more and given little. Instead, Prime Minister Modi should be generous and give the reasonable aid demanded by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin in its entirety. We hope that even the lakhs of people in Tamil Nadu who have lost their homes, daily goods, cattle and crops--in many cases losing everything--may be embraced by Prime Minister Modi's outstretched arms. The poor people of Tamil Nadu are waiting!
