M.G.R. Medical University VC’s tenure extended

Vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University in Chennai Dr Sudha Seshayyan’s tenure has been extended until December 30, 2022.
Dr Seshayyan was appointed as the 10th Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2018 by the then Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

  Dr Sudha Seshayyan has over 30 years of teaching experience and extensive management experience. She has served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Madras Medical College and has also received the Dr MGR Medical University Award for Best Administrator. She has also contributed extensively to medical journals and has served on the editorial review team for Grace Anatomy.


In this case, Dr Seshayyan's term ended on December 30 last year(2021). 
Subsequently, a committee headed by former IAS officer 
R. Poornalingam was constituted to select the new VC.

 37 people had applied for the post. After various rounds of consultation, 3 of them were selected and the selection committee sent them to the Governor for the final call.

 In this situation, 
Governor RN Ravi has extended the term of Dr Sudha Seshayyan till December 30, 2022. It has also been reported that the Governor has asked the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up a new selection committee to select a new Vice-Chancellor and to start the selection process afresh.
