Following Thirukural, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil Studies has begun work to translate the ancient Tamil literature Manimegalai into world languages. Manimegalai happens to be one of the five great epics of the Tamil language alongside its forerunner Silappadhikaram.
Work has begun on translating the literature script into 20 world languages, including Sinhala, Malay, Chinese, Korean, Mongolian, and Japanese.
Attempts are being made to spread the glory of Manimegalai, one of the ancient literature of the Sangam age that speaks of Buddhist philosophies, in countries where Buddhism is widespread, including in Sri Lanka, China and Vietnam. Efforts are also being made to translate all Sangam literature into Hindi and Sanskrit.
