The city mayor Jagan Periyasamy felicitated the students who scored the highest marks in their class X and XII public examinations during the Teachers’ Day celebration took place at St Joseph’s girls high school in the district.
He also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions and the best performing teachers. Rosemary school principal presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “It is a pleasure to celebrate Teachers' Day today. It is mainly because I believe that teachers are the ones who bestow us with knowledge, good habits and manners. They are the ones who care about our development. They work for our improvement and empowerment. Apart from focusing on academics, students should also focus on their diet, health and physical activities. One should have the belief that one can achieve anything.”
Emphasising the need to have a sense of responsibility, he said that it is important to plant a sapling at every house and he had planted over 2 lakh saplings after he was elected as the city mayor.
Zonal chairman Nirmal Raj, MP Bhavani Marsal, fishermen committee organizers Daniel and Joseph Prabhakar, teachers and students attended the event.
