Mayor inaugurates Adarvanam project

Erode Mayor Nagaratnam Subramaniam today inaugurated the Adarvanam project at Vairapalayam in Erode Corporation. The event was held to mark the one year anniversary of the DMK government.  She said as the compose yard in the area was removed, the place (3.8 acre) would be used for raising Adarvanam under which 15000 saplings would be planted. 

Drip irrigation facility will be provided for it.  The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Forest Department and the Erode Corporation Engineering Department. Already, with the help of Aramchei (NGO) 20000 saplings were planted in the city. The vacant lands of the civic body will be used for tree plantation, she added.
At present there are twenty four garbage collection centers in Erode Corporation. 

About 70 tons of bio degradable waste is brought to the centers every day and about 15 tons of compost (natural manure) is produced. The compost is certified by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.  We are providing this fertilizer to the public free of cost.  There are about three composting centers in the Vairapalayam area alone.  

Of 11 tons of biodegradable compost per day, 3 tons of compost is produced. Compostable materials are stored for forty two days and converted into compost naturally.  There is much demand for such organic manure, she added. Commissioner Sivakumar, Deputy Mayor Selvaraj, DMK town secretary Subramaniam, and zone president PK Palanisamy were present.
