Hearing impaired youths Kumar S and Maharaja B, from Tamil Nadu, who pack customer orders in Amazon’s fulfilment center in Coimbatore play for the Tamil Nadu State Deaf Cricket Team and also ace in the cricket field as well as at the workplace. Kumar. S hails from Krishnagiri, a town in Tamil Nadu, where he stays with his family of four including his father, mother and two elder brothers. Kumar’s father is a driver by profession and is an inspiration for him. Growing up had not been easy for Kumar due to his impairment.

Maharaja B lives with his father and younger brother in xxx, Tamil Nadu. His father is also hearing impaired. Maharaja always worked hard to bear the financial responsibilities of his family. He too faced challenges like Kumar while communicating with people and was looking for an opportunity that could help him become financially stable and at the same time, provide an environment where he isn’t made to feel different.
Kumar and Maharaja joined Amazon India in December 2021 as Fulfilment Center associates. In his own words, Kumar shares, “My team mates and manager are really supportive and patient with me.We also have tools such as ‘Signable’, which is especially designed for people like me to help communicate with everyone across the floor. Communicating with my co-workers is a lot easier and I feel happy to be part of the team here.”

Earlier, it was difficult for me to express myself as there was no interpreter who could help me communicate with people around.
