Memorial day of Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam observed

Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women and Sri 

Avinashilingam Education Trust Institutions honour the memories of the founder, Padma 

Bhushan Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam Ayya on his 32nd memorial day on Nov 21. Dr Premavathy Vijayan, former Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam Institute for Home 

Science and Higher Education for Women was the chief guest of the event.

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in  1970  G.D. Birla award and Jamnalal Bajaj award. 

Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam Institute of Home Science 

and Higher Education for Women, welcomed. 

Dr. T. S. K. Meenakshisundaram Chancellor of the Institute 

delivered the keynote address, emphasising

Ayya’s unwavering dedication towards the growth of the state and students’ welfare. 

Dr. D. Lalitha, the chief guest and the former Head, Department of Tamil of the institute gave 

the commemoration speech. 

Dr. Kulandaivel, ex-chancellor and trustee of the institutions, shared with the group his 

personal encounter with Ayya. 

Dr. Gowri Ramakrishnan, assistant managing trustee presided over the ceremony and Dr. 

S. Kowsalya, Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute of Home Science and Higher Education for 

Women, delivered the vote of thanks.
