Minister allays fear of Ramadoss on housing scheme

Housing Minister
S Muthusamy allayed the fears of PMK leader Dr Ramadoss that the proposed plan to entrust the work of construction of apartments of TNHB and take a few flats and sell it to get the cost of the construction would not hit the quality of construction.

After distributing welfare assistance worth Rs. 26.26 lakhs to 240 persons to differently abled at a function held at the Collectorate on Friday, he said ''now itself, the the construction work is given to private parties.  If they are given lands and asked to construct flats to get a few plots for their sales to meet the construction cost,  they would maintain the quality of construction fully'. It would help the people in the long run and check complaints about lack of quality in construction'' he  hoped.  He said that in other districts, plans to construct new houses were announced on behalf of TNHB. In Erode and other districts, if suitable lands are available, houses will be constructed.  But, already, thousands of plots and houses were kept unsold in TNHB.

For differently abled, pattas were given to 86 persons near Chithodu. As they could not access the place easily, sites in alternate place would be given. Similarly, free house sites will be given in all Taluks to the differently abled in their areas itself.  Regarding HC concern over low maintenance grant to Diffables, he said the issue would be taken to the knowledge of the government. Recently, government hiked the grant from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 to persons with severe disability. In 2021-22, Rs. 13.25 crore worth aid was given to  7,009 diffables, maintenance grant of Rs 11.20 crore to 5,854 persons, 225 students have been given scholarships of Rs. 7.90 lakh and  29 special medical camps have been conducted and 3,110 persons have been issued identity cards, he added.
