Housing Minister S Muthuswamy handed over houses allotment orders to 124 beneficiaries in the Erode Karungalpalayam apartment complex of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board at a function held at the on Sunday.
He said the TNHB constructed 1072 houses for those who lived in huts at Karungalpalayam, Periyar Nagar and Perumpallam Odai in Erode in1983-84.
As the houses were in bad condition, they were demolished and reconstructed. The cost of each house is Rs 9.72 lakh including beneficiary contribution of Rs1.25 lakh. Remaining amount would be government subsidy. Following a plea of the beneficiaries, their contribution was reduced to Rs 1 lakh and asked to pay it as Rs 883 per month for 20 years.
Accordingly, 29 beneficiaries have paid Rs 1 lakh in full and 274 beneficiaries have paid in installments.
Of them, in the first phase, allotment orders were given to 124 allittees today, he added.
Mayor Nagarathinam Subramaniam, corporation councillors and TNHB officials attended the function.
