Housing Minister Su Muthusamy instructed officials to complete the works of Athikadavu-Avinasi Project (AAP) while inspecting the works at Kalingarayan Dam. The project would help drought affected areas of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts. 1.50 TMC will be pumped per annum from downstream of the dam in Bhavani river to help 24,468 acres of land to get irrigation facility in the 3 districts by filling up of water in 32 PWD, 42 panchayat union lakes and 971 ponds.
The cost of project revised from Rs 1652 crores to Rs.1756.88 crores. Under this scheme, work is on to construct a barrage across Bhavani river and pump houses at Bhavani, Nallakaundampalayam, Tiruvachi, Polanayakkanpalayam, Emmampoondi and Annur. 4202 meters pipe laying long works between pumping stations 1 to 2 and 15944 meters pipeline laying works between 3 and 4 have been completed. Remaining works are underway.
