Tamil Nadu legislative assembly speaker M Appavu on Tuesday removed MLAs belonging to the AIADMK faction of Edappadi K Palaniswami for disturbing the functioning of the assembly by creating ruckus. The speaker had also prohibited them from attending the session for one day.
On the second day of the assembly session, as no changes in the seating arrangements were made in the assembly, AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam sat on the chair allocated for the deputy opposition leader, placed next to the opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami.Following the dispute between both the AIADMK leaders that arose following the demand for single leadership in the party, the general council body of the party removed OPS and his supporters from the basic membership of the party.
They had also written to the speaker to remove OPS from the post of deputy opposition leader and appoint RB Udhayakumar for the post. However, the speaker is yet to take a final decision on the issue.During the start of the session, MLAs from EPS faction questioned the speaker for not taking a final decision on the issue despite submitting multiple leaders and questioned him for allowing OPS to sit in the chair allocated for deputy opposition leader.
However, the Speaker asked them not to raise such issues during the time allocated for discussing people’s issue.Ignoring his warnings, the MLAs continued to create ruckus by staging Dharna in front of the speaker’s chair and by raising slogans. After issuing multiple warnings, the speaker ordered the securities to remove the MLAs from the assembly. He, further, prohibited them from attending the session for the next two days. However, following the intervention of Durai Murugan, he reduced it to one day.
