MLAs support agitating ryots demand

MLAs support agitating ryots demand

Bavani MLA and former minister KC Karupanan and Perundurai MLA S Jayakumar supported the demands of agitating ryots of Kumarikalpalayam village, Gowthampalayam panchayat, in Uthukuli block.
The village has a 32 ft height 2300 year old Nadukal (hero stone) which came under the control of TN Archaeology Department. Its photo was kept in the Keezhadi cite museum. The proposed HT power line (765/400 kw) from Virudhunagar to Gowthampalayam would destroy the ancient Nadukal site. So, the ryots of the area were staging dharna for 16th day in succession to press protection to the archaeological site and withdrawal of any move to acquire land within 2 km of the village.

The local (Perundurai) MLA S Jayakumar met the director of archaeology SR Gandhi at Chennai and pleaded to consider ryots demand recently. Meanwhile, the MLAs met the ryots staging stir in front of the Uthukuli taluk office on Monday and extended their support to them.
Then, Jayakumar met the Tirupur Collector Christuraj on the issue. As the Tirupur Collector assured to do the needful, the ryots withdrew their 16 day stir.
