The Medium, Small and Micro enterprises (MSMEs) have been severely hit by power tariff hike, particularly the peak hour and standard tarrif hike.
Although business establishments could bear the increase they are unable to bear the peak hour and standard tarrif increase.
Many industries such as textiles cannot be halted during peak hours. At a time when no industry is doing well this forces a production decrease.
Operating 50 percent in a month itself seems impossible. In this scenario establishments have to pay the standard power charges whether they operate or not. But industries are not in a position to pay the standard power charges.
Many industries are forced to borrow to pay the standard charges. Job losses are occuring when the operation of MSMEs which employ large number of people is stopped.
Industrialists express fear that many organisations will close down if the situation continues.
The standard charge which has increased 5 times has to be withdrawn.Only then the MSMEs and the livelyhood of thousands of workers can be saved. The Chief Minister M.K.Stalin should intervene. Immediate action is needed.
