A golden era of higher education will be ushered-in under my rule said Chief Minister M.K Stalin speaking in the Madras University's graduation ceremony.
The Chief Minister shared dias with Governor K.N Ravi in 164th Graduation Ceremony today. In his speech, Stalin said, the Madras University has created leaders, industrialists, and several people with special achievements." It is heartening to know that in the academic year 2022 -23, Social Justice and Occupational Methods in Thirukural, are introduced as optional subjects in Bachelor degree courses" he added the true wealth that parents can give to their children is education.
He further said that the "Nan Mudhalvan Thittam" was introduced with the objective to create opportunities for every student to become a Chief Minister. Many organizations say that they are unable to get youngsters suitable for the job vacancies. Students with better economic means are able to get special training in private coaching centres. The Tamilnadu Government is taking all steps to prepare youth with all skills and attributes. Schemes to help poor students come up in life are being implemented, he said.
The Chief Minister added that Rs 1000 is being deposited in the bank accounts of students pursuing higher education. Despite financial shortage, assistance is being given keeping in mind the best interest of the students. From the year 2010 onwards free higher education scheme is being implemented. DMK government is a government for the students he said adding that he thanked the Governor for being supportive of the initiative.
"While Kamarajar's era was the golden era of school education, Kalaingar Karunanidhi's era is the golden age of collegiate education. Under my tenure we are working to usher in the golden era of the higher education" said Stalin. The Chief Minister announced that in the coming academic year, Transgenders will be given free education.

The Government was firm on the stand that medical and degree course admissions should be based only on marks in Plus 2 exams, as NEET will not be beneficial, said Ponmudi. Stating that students should follow the principle of social justice he said that the government wants to tell the Governor that education should remain only a state subject. He thanked the Governor for sending the NEET bill for Presidential approval.
Speaking about the legacy of the university, he recollected that five Presidents of India, Rajagopalachari, Sarvapalli Dr.Radhakrishnan, Sanjeeva Redddy, V.V Giri and
Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam were students of the Madras Univerisity.
