Nagaland Governor inaugurates IIRSI 2023, India's premier eye surgery convention

The 38th Intraocular Implant and Refractive Surgery Convention
(IIRSI 2023) was inaugurated by Hon'ble Governor of Nagaland, Thiru La. Ganesan, at the
ITC Grand Chola Hotel in Chennai. The event aimed to bring together ophthalmologists from
India and abroad to discuss advancements in technology and their experience in IOL
implantation and refractive eye surgery. Over 4,000 ophthalmologists from around the world
participated in the two-day event, which is held by the Intraocular Implant and Refractive
Society of India (IIRSI) to showcase their skills and present the latest advancements in
ophthalmology, particularly cataract and refractive surgery. 

The conference covered foreign
faculty lectures, sessions for young ophthalmologists, hands-on wetlab courses, Ophthalmic
Premier League competition, Court Martial in Ophthalmology, company sponsored
symposiums, IIRSI Film Festival Award Show (IFFA), and IIRSI photography competition.
The event was attended by doctors from India and other countries, with the goal of reducing
the number of blind people suffering in India. The conference covered foreign faculty
lectures, sessions for young ophthalmologists, hands-on wetlab courses, Ophthalmic Premier
League competition, Court Martial in Ophthalmology, company sponsored symposiums,
IIRSI Film Festival Award Show (IFFA), and IIRSI photography competition. Prof. Amar
Agarwal, Secretary General of IIRSI and Chairman of Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital, stated that
the annual conference has become a pivotal event in India's ophthalmology calendar,
focusing on global ophthalmic innovations.
 

The awardees from India included Dr. Ragini Parekh, who received the President Gold
Medal, and Dr. R. Venkatesh, Puducherry, who received the Special Award. The
international awardees included Dr. Dalia Said, Dr. Harminder Dua from the United
Kingdom, Dr. Jennifer Rose from Nussbaumer, Dr. Uri Soiberman from the USA, Dr. Dinh
Thi Hang Anh from Vietnam, Dr. Farhad Hafezi from Switzerland, Dr. Joshua C Teichman
from Canada, Dr. Leonardo Torquetti from Brazil, Dr. Michael Mimouni from Israel, Dr.
Robert Ang from the Phillippines, Dr. Roger Zaldivar from Argentina, Dr. Tamer Gamaly
from Dubai, and Dr. Yuri Kallinnikov from Russia.
