National Voter's Day function was conducted by District Election Officer / District Collector Mr.Kranthikumar Padi in the Coimbatore District Collector's office on Wednesday.
District Revenue Officer Dr Sharmila and officials attended.
The awareness rally started from District Collector's office and reached VOC ground.
Students of Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Nirmala College for Girls, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Ratnam College of Arts and Science, PSG College of Arts and Science, Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Dr.RV College of Arts and Science, Kongunadu Arts and College of Science, Srikrishna College of Arts and Science, Thondamuthur Government College of Arts and Sciences, PPG College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. NGP College of Arts and Sciences, participated.
Following that, the District Collector launched a total of 11 awareness vehicles including 10 voter awareness vehicles for assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district and one voter awareness vehicle for Anaimalai. Also, all the government officials under the leadership of the District Collector took the National Voter's Day Pledge. He presented certificates and cash prizes to the college and school students who won the various competitions held on the occasion of the day and cadets to the polling officers who worked well. Speaking on the occasion, the District Governor said, National Voter's Day is observed on 25th January every year. Everyone who has completed 18 years of age has the right to vote in election. Voter registration is low in educated areas. Everyone should work together to change this situation. All youth must vote. All of us should work together in Coimbatore district and take steps to increase voter turnout, he advised.
