Nilgiris Collector's instructions on Chathurthi festival

The Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Thanneeru and SP NS Nisha presided over a coordination committee meeting of officials at the collectorate on the norms to be followed by public during the Vinyaka Chathurthi festival to be held on September 7.
The Collector said that the idols can be kept in public places after getting permission from the concerned panchayats, municipalities, highways, public works and other departments.  A temporary permission should be obtained from the TNEB to get electricity connection. The height of the statue should not exceed 10 feet from the dais. Erecting the idol near places of worship, hospitals and educational institutions should be avoided. The idol must be made of pure clay and as per the norms of TNPCB. Water-soluble and non-toxic natural dyes should alone be used.A licence to use a sound amplifier (mic) should be obtained for using 2 hours in the morning and 2 hour in the evening.  Cone-shaped loudspeakers should be avoided. During the event, advertising banners on behalf of any political party or religious leader should not be erected. Also, the idols should be immersed in the allotted places only.
