Tamil Nadu has reported no tomato flu cases till date, said the state health minister Ma Subramanian on Sunday. Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a mega Covid-19 vaccination camp at Sathuvachari in Vellore district, the minister said about 3.50 crore people are yet to take their Covid-19 booster dose in Tamil Nadu and it is to cover these people, mega vaccination camps are being conducted in the state.
“We have about 27 lakh vaccines in our hand. The union government has announced that the vaccine meant for those aged below 17 years - corbevax - can be used for those aged above 18 years as well,” he said.
He further assured to fill the 4,308 vacant posts at government health institutions across the state by October.
He said, he would be meeting the union health minister to request him to take steps to speed up the works to construct AIMS hospital in Madurai, to set up a AIMS hospital in Coimbatore and to set up medical colleges in six districts including Tirupattur, Ranipet and Kanchipuram.
He said, “No cases of tomato flu or monkeypox are being reported in the state. Following the case in neighbouring Kerala, we have intensified the vigil along the borders by setting up 13 check posts. We have been thoroughly checking all those visiting the state from foreign countries.”
