Nobody has rights to impose a language on people, says Kanimozhi

Thoothukudi MP and DMK’s deputy general secretary Kanimozhi said that nobody has any rights to impose a language on people. Speaking to reporters after participating in a private function in Coimbatore, Kanimozhi said, “Language is our identity and it helps to understand ourself and about our history. A language is not just used for communication. It is our identity and self-respect.

It is only to prevent another language war in the state, the Chief Minister has issued such a statement.”Tamil Nadu is a state where equal importance is given to Tamil and English as the former is used to communicate among ourselves and the latter is used to communicate with outsiders, she said and added the Tamil Nadu government stands firm on its decision that students of the state should learn its native language.“In a diverse country like India, all languages should be treated equally.

But some people are trying to make a particular language as the official language.  However, people  cannot accept it. Not just our Chief Minister, Chief Ministers of other states have also opposed it by respecting the feelings of the people,” she added.
