Former revenue minister and AIADMK deputy general secretary RB Udayakumar alleged that the DMK rule stopped old age pension (OAP) for 15 lakh people in the state. Campaigning for Erode East bypoll AIADMK candidate KS Thennarasu at Karungalpalayam on Thursday morning, he said the DMK regime till 2011, allotted Rs 1200 crores per year, gave Rs 500 as OAP to 12 lakh persons.
After Amma came to power, the OAP was hiked to Rs 1000 and 32 lakh people were given OAP.
Edappadiyar added another 5 lakh people and gave pension to 37 lakh people with allotting Rs 4200 cr per year for the scheme.
The DMK promised to increase the pension to Rs 1500 but it has not yet been given. Instead the pension has been stopped for 15 lakh people. Amma alone hiked marriage aid to poor women with giving one sovereign gold. Even though the gold mines were closed during the corona crisis Edappadiyar gave gold coins to one lakh people as marriage aid.
Promises including
Under the Amma's marriage aid scheme, Rs 25000 for women studied up-to plus 2 and Rs 50,000 for degree holders in order to promote women education. Many poor families who did not see gold under her scheme. But, the DMK rule has stopped the scheme.
Amma fulfilled all poll promises including 20 kg free rice, marriage aid, scootty, amma unavagam etc. But DMK didn't fulfil many promises including hike the OAP from Rs 1000 to 1500, cancellation of
NEET, education loan, gas, petrol, diesel subsidy etc.
DMK would give many promises. In AIADMK regime, many development projects including 11 medical colleges, AIIMS Medical College Hospital scheme etc, were brought. But, nothing was done for the welfare of people under DMK rule, he charged.
