Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday announced that an Olympic academy would be set up in Trichy to help sports enthusiasts enhance their performance.
The academy would be equipped with all the essential equipment and it would provide the best training to the athletes.The Chief Minister, who is taking a tour across the state, reached Trichy on Thursday.
Participating in an event organized at Anna stadium in the city, he inaugurated 5635 project works worth Rs 238.41 crore, laid foundation work to kick-start 5951 projects worth Rs 308.29 crore and distribute welfare aids worth Rs 79.06 crore to 22,716 beneficiaries.
Stalin appreciated minister KN Nehru for organizing even a small event like a conference and said even small functions would be celebrated in a grand manner in Trichy. Addressing the gathering, Stalin said, “There was severe criticism when Udhayanidhi Stalin took charge as the sports minister. But, now, he is answering to those criticisms with his works. I wish to improve the departments that he heads.
” Pointing out that his government had already made an announcement regarding the establishment of four Olympic academies in four zones of the state to assist sport enthusiasts achieve better in international competitions including Olympics, he said that an Olympic academy with all facilities would be established in the city.
“Not just in education, employment and industrial growth, Tamil Nadu should also shine better when it comes to sports. The announcement would not just brighten minister Udhayanidhi but also ministers KN Nehru and Anbil Mahesh. This is an example of how the Dravidian government is working for the welfare of all sectors,” he said.
The DMK government would never get tired of working for the welfare of women and in bringing out special schemes for women and these schemes are aimed at improving the lives of women, he said, remembering several special schemes for women including reservation for women in employment and local body election, free bus service for women, Pudhumai penn scheme and women self help groups.
Pointing out the Manimegalai award which was bestowed to best performing women self help group was stopped during the AIADMK regime, he said that the award was revived after the DMK government took charge. “Once Anna said, success would reach you if you continue to put your best efforts irrespective of humiliation and hurdles.
If self-help groups continue to work as per Anna's words, they would attain success soon,” he said. “In 2022 alone, I have travelled 8,549 kilometers and participated in 647 functions – 551 government functions and 96 party functions. In the state, 1.03 crore people have benefitted through government schemes in the last one year. No matter what, travel and public works were not stopped.
Awards like number 1 Tamil Nadu and number 1 Chief Minister were measured only in the smiles of the poor and in the happiness of women,” he stated. “Anna said that one could see God in the smiles of the poor. But I work to see Anna and Kalaignar in the smiles of the poor,” he added.
