Opposition leader demands Rs 30,000 compensation for rain-affected crops

AIADMK interim general secretary and opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami demanded the state government to provide Rs 30,000 per acre compensation for the rain-affected crops in the state.In a statement, he said, “Rain has been slashing several districts in the state for the past few days and as a result, over 1.5 lakh crops were damaged in districts. In delta regions including Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai, over one lakh farmlands were damaged in rain.”

In  Mayiladuthurai district, crops in over 80,000 acres of crops were submerged in rain, he said, adding that many parts of Poompuhar and Seerkali were inundated in water.  In Chidambaram, over 6,000 acres of farmland has gone under water, he added. Pointing out that the government had announced November 15 as the last day for filing crop insurance, he urged the state government to increase the  deadline by the month end and to provide 
Rs 30,000 compensation per acre for the rain-affected crops
