Ahead of his days-long trip across the state, former Chief Minister and AIADMK’s expelled leader O Panneerselvam to meet his supporters at Alwarpet in Chennai.
His supporters from several districts including Salem, Krishnagiri, Vellore and Ranipet are expected to participate in the meeting. During the meeting, things to be done during his trip and next course of action regarding the AIADMK’s general council are likely to be discussed.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has decided to hear the arguments on the civil suits filed by OPS and another general council member Vairamuthu challenging the July 11 general council meeting of the party on August 10.
Justice G Jayachandran to hear the arguments after adjourning it on Monday. During the hearing, senior advocate PH Arvind Pandian requested the court to postpone the hearing as another senior counsel from New Delhi would argue the case on Wednesday.
Earlier, the suits were heard by Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy, who on July 11 had refused to stay the conduct of the general council meeting on the same day and made some observations against OPS the same day.
Subsequently, the advocates of OPS met Chief Justice M N Bhandari with a request to transfer the case to another judge.
When the matter came up again on August 4 before Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy as scheduled, the judge chided OPS and his lawyers for approaching the Chief Justice the previous day with the plea to change the judge and the advocates tendered unconditional apologies.
He further directed them to file a memo in this connection and get their earlier plea seeking the case transfer, officially returned and passed over the matter.
