Plan to extend Avinashi Road flyover till Nilambur

Work is in progress to construct a 10.5 km flyover from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins at a cost of Rs 1,650 crore to ease traffic congestion on Coimbatore Avinashi Road. It is also planned to extend the Avinashi Road flyover to a distance of 5 km from the Goldwins area at a cost of Rs 550 crore. 

An official of the National Highways Department said, “Coimbatore Avinashi Road flyover works are in full swing. So far 263 pillars have been erected out of the total 306. There are 18 more pillars to be erected in the junctions including Hope College Signal, Fun Mall, Nava India, Esso bunk, Lakshmi Mill, Anna Statue and so on.

The signal is to be set up at a cost of Rs. 2 lakhs while erecting pillars at each junction. Currently, the launcher is mounted on pillars near the airport and the upper side bases are being set up. Concrete bases for the flyover are being prepared in the Thennampalayam area. Then they are brought from there and fitted by machines.

Meanwhile, it is planned to extend the Avinashi Road flyover by another 5 km at a cost of Rs 550 crore from the Goldwins area. The draft plan has been prepared and is ready. With the permission of the government, the work of extending the flyover to Nilambur will take place. The Avinashi Road flyover is scheduled to be completed by 2024.” Thus he said.
