Plea to build flyovers in Perundurai section of Salem- Chengapalli NH

Perundurai MLA S Jayakumar appealed to Tamil Nadu government to press the Centre to build bridges at important village road junctions on the Salem Chengapalli (NH47) National Highway in Perundurai segment to check many fatal mishaps. Members of various political parties and social organizations arranged a meeting at Perundurai and submitted a petition in this regard to the MLA and Tirupur MP Subbarayan.

In his speech, Jayakumar said that ''there are many road accidents on the NH every day and so far hundreds of people have been killed. Therefore service roads and flyovers are must.  I spoke about this issue in my maiden speech after I won and went to the Assembly.

''Apart from that, letters were sent to the Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. My relatives also died while crossing the NH.  Farmers are afraid to cross the NH to bring their goods to Perundurai market.  They had TVS 50 in those days.  Now they have TVS XL. While crossing the NH they are losing their lives in accidents caused by cars and trucks came at a speed of 200 km. 

''Recently, the CM  asked each MLA to state ten top problems in their segment. Of 10 problems, I mentioned 5 problems related to NH. Now, NHAI estimated the cost of building a underpass at Chithodu at Rs 47.01 crore, foot overbridge at Tiruvatchi at Rs 87.27 lakh, underpass at Kanchikoil at Rs 28.37 crore, underpass  at Thudupathi Rs 33.52 crore, service road at Vijayamangalam at Rs 4.69 crore. 

''But, the state government should urge the Centre to initiate and implement the project in the coming financial year by allocating fund''.  He said if the present meeting decided to hold a stir in democratic manner, he would take part in the stir with 2000 AIADMK cadres, he added. Many including Tirupur MP Subbarayan spoke in the same manner.
