Plea to rename Erode Road after Rev Brough

Various outfits led by Erode CSI Church property manager Altrin Rajeshkumar staging a demonstration at Erode Bull Fight Junction urging the government to restore the name of  Brough Road to the main road where CSI Brough Memorial Church is existed.  The name, existed  for the past 70 years,  was changed from Brough Road to Meenakshisundaranar Road during the previous AIADMK rule.  

The agitators wanted to rename the road as Brough Road  and name nearby road as Meenakshisundaranar Road. Rev Antony Watson Brough, a Christian missionary of Australia, who came under London Missionary Society, created 96 schools in the district and also hospital at Erode for the benefit of all sections of the people.

As Erode Municipal chairman, he worked for the development of the Erode city and offered the CSI land for creating the main road in the city, RDO office, Gani textiles market, GTS School, Taxi Stand, Erode Corporation head office, etc. In fact, only after 25 years of his stay in Erode, he built the CSI Church which has an inscription stating 'Only God' in both Tamil and 'Ya Kudah' in Arabic language.

Appreciating his service to the people of Erode, Erode municipal council  named the main road where the present corporation office is existed after Rev Brough. The CSI  functionaries Jacob Livingston, John,  Shanthi Premkumar, Samuel Livingston, Baskar Babu and many functionaries of CPM, CPI, VCK, NTK, attended the demo.
