Lower Bavani Project (LBP) ayacut land owners association has appealed to the Collector to stop the false propaganda about the renotation work in the LBP canal.
People's Grievance Meeting was held at Erode District Collectorate under the chairmanship of Collector Rajagopal Sunkara on Monday.
In the meeting, the Association Secretary KV Ponnaiyan and the administrators Eswaramurthy, Periyasamy and Ramasamy submitted a petition stating that proper repair work of the canal was started last year according to the government order. After receiving farmers views on the issue, it has been promised that 10 percent of the total length of the canal, i.e. 55 km on both banks of the canal, will be reconstructed in the affected areas. The works were being carried out accordingly. But some persons spread misinfomation that concrete is being laid all over the canal and the water supply will be affected and the villages will become desert. Therefore, such false propaganda should be prevented in order to create a peaceful environment in the district for the implementation of the favourable judgment of the High Court regarding the renovation work, they pleaded.
