Police have beefed up the security measures across the district following the demise of Abuthahir, one of the suspects of the Coimbatore bomb blast case and a life convict of Madurai prison official murder case.
CB-CID officials registered a case against five people and arrested four people including Abuthahir, a resident of Ukkadam in Coimbatore, in connection with the murder of a prison official – Jayaprakash – at Madurai prison campus in 1997.
Banned organized
He was a member of a banned organized Al-Ummah. While delivering judgement, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court convicted him and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a penalty in 2003. Subsequently, he was lodged in Coimbatore central prison.
He was also arrested in connection with the Coimbatore bomb blast case but was acquitted. Meanwhile, the accused was undergoing treatment for diabetics for the past ten years and for the past few years, he is undergoing treatment for rheumatoid arthritis at a private hospital. He was released from the prison on permanent parole because of his health issues.Abuthahir died on Wednesday night. He was 42.
