Congress Erode District Election Observer Sheryl Babu said that the National Herald case was an act of political revenge launched by BJP against the Congress. He told reporters at the party's South district unit office that for the next four days from today, he was receiving applications from the party men wishing to contest in the party election at booth, zone, town, block level party units in Erode South, North and Erode City district units.
The officebearers would be elected on consensus basis. The district officebearers would be announced within a month and state officebearers within 3 months. The applications would be sent to the Congress headquarters and new executives will be elected, he added. The Central government is currently seeking political revenge against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi now in the National Herald case which was pending for the past 10 years. The newspaper was launched by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938.
It fought for country's independence and published in Hindi, Urdu and English languages. As it suffered with huge loss, Congress party offered Rs 90 cr loan to revive it.
So, it is wrong to blame Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi that they tired to grab its assets. They were ready to face any trial but a conspiracy was hatched to politically paralyze them. The trial has been going on for the last 10 years in this case in which it was found that they were not guilty in any way.
Even then, Rahul Gandhi was harassed in the name of inquiry by enforcement directorate as per the dictate of the PM so that only Congress staged nation wide stir, he asserted.
On President's election, he said former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sharat Pawar would be the opposition parties' candidate for the post as Congress would create unity among all opposition parties definitely.
The BJP has just 33 percent of votes only. So, the opposition unity would ensure the victory of opposition candidate easily this time, he hoped. Congress Erode East MLA Thirumagan Evara and party South district unit president Dr Makkal Rajan were present.
