Retail sales up in textile market

 The Erode Textile Market is held weekly on Tuesdays.  In this situation, business has been in a slump for the last few weeks after the Pongal festival.  

Retailers said that retail trade was booming ahead of Ramzan, while wholesale trade was completely non-existent due to lack of visit of traders from other states.  According to textile traders, wholesale and retail trade has been sluggish for the past few weeks. 

 There are various reasons for it including rise in petrol, diesel and yarn prices.  Last week, retail trade picked up due to Ramzan festival.  The market is busy this week also due the festival. Today, 40 percent of retail and 30 per cent of wholesale trade took place due to the large influx of traders from other districts.icts.
