The city-based Rex hospital announced the installation of a fully automated robotic surgery system for joint replacement on Monday.Director General of Police Sylendra Babu took part in the event as the chief guest. Dr Singaravadivelu, president of Tamil Nadu orthopedic association, Dr CJ Ravi, secretary of the association and V Balakrishnan, city police commissioner were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sylendra Babu appreciated the efforts of Dr Rex in bringing the latest innovation in orthopedic surgery to Coimbatore. Lauding the work of doctors, he said that just as police provide people with physical security, doctors provide people with security for their health.In his welcome address, Dr Rex said that the system will be a boon for the patients as the robotic system in the hands of an experienced orthopedic surgeon provides a high degree of precision.
Redefine healthcare
“There is minimal removal of bone involved in this type of robotic surgery. The post-operative recovery is also smooth and is much less painful, as compared to after undergoing a traditional knee replacement surgery.
This technology promises to redefine healthcare for patients suffering from arthritis,” he added.Dr Singaravadivelu said that the technology helps to improve surgeries, while Balakrishnan said that the installation of the fully automated robotic surgery system will be beneficial for the people of Coimbatore.
