A conference titled ‘Nuances in Hip and Knee Replacement - Anthroplasty’, organized by city-based Rex Hospital was inaugurated today. The hospital has been in the news recently for installing a fully automated robotic surgery system. Along with Dr. C. Rex, Chief Consultant – Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon, Rex Hospitals, other dignitaries present included , Chief Guest, Dr. M. Vanasekar , Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association (TNOA) Past President), Guest of Honour, Dr. Manikandan , Vice President – TNOA , Mr. C.J.Ravi , Secretary, TNOA and Mrs. Mallika Chandrabose.
Mrs. Mallika Chandraboselighted the traditional ‘Kuthuvillaku’ on the occasion.
Speaking at the event Dr. Rex said, the key objective of the event was to teach young surgeons, robotic joint replacements. Four sessions of deliberations on various topics related to robotic orthopaedic surgery and live telecast of robotic surgeries, were other highlights of the 6th edition of the annual event.
The number of people suffering from joint pain is increasing by the day. Joint pain due to arthritis affects mobility and quality of life. The alarming rise in people with crippling arthritis had been a worrying trend around the world. Robotic technology promises to redefine treatment for arthritis patients.
Rex Hospital has been a pioneer in joint replacement field for the past 25 years, performing more than 6,200 replacements successfully.
More than 250 surgeons are attending the conference.
He added that patients who had undergone fully automated robotic replacements, are fully satisfied, because of less pain and quicker functional recovery. More than 100 joint robotic knee replacements have been done successfully.
