TN Government has set a target of Rs 4 cr for Erode Corporation to carry out various development works under the Namakku Name Thittam this year, said Corporation Mayor Nagaratnam Subramaniam.
She inaugurated a check dam construction work of the Corporation and Olirum Erode Foundation (OEF) at Kasipalayam in her 50th ward in Erode. The existing earthen dam in the water stream will now be converted into a concrete dam, in which water will be stored in 2.5 acres and this will benefit about 7,000 people in the area.
The Corporation's contribution to the project is Rs. 26.70 lakhs and OEF's share is Rs 27.80 lakh. It is 50th check dam work of OEF. If the public provides 30 percent share of any project, the remaining will be shared by the corporation and the civic body will do the work. If the public share is 50 percent, the corporation will pay the rest and allow them to do the work.
The public can easily meet the needs like road, small bridge, culvert etc under the project. If the public contributes Rs. 50 lakh in each zone, we can easily achieve the project target of Rs 4 cr. Under the scheme, the unspent amount of other local bodies can also be claimed if public donation is more. She sought the cooperation of public to build more check dams to conserve rain water.
OEF president Chinnasamy said the OEF spent over Rs 5 cr for conserving, renovating restoring and creating water sources for the past 5 years and also donated over Rs 2 cr for constructing new corona treatment block in Perundurai Medical College Hospital.
Corporation Commissioner Sivakumar Deputy Mayor Selvaraj, OEF functionaries S Ganesan, D Shanmugasundaram, Velmurugan, CD Kumar, Srishivkumar, DMK city secretary Subramaniam and many others were present.
