Ryots assn.s represent to WRD officials on LBP canal modernisation work

Many Ryots assn functionaries led by Keezhbavani ayacut ryots protection movement president KV Ponnaiyan submitted a petition to the WRD officials on carrying out the LBP canal modernisation work.
Ponnaiyan told newsmen ``On the basis of PWD CE Mohanakrishnan expert committee report alone, the late CM Karunanidhi accepted the LBP canal modernisation project and Edappadi Palanisamy rule got fund to initiate the project.
After the DMK came to power some ryots led by one Ravi planned to block the LBP Canal Modernisatio Project.  The housing minister S Muthusamy gave a project details last year, {6.5.2023} and HC and SC rejected the plea of the ryots opposing the project.
The HC also gave direction to give protection to the contractors and check illegal water tapping from the ayacut.
It also directed to carry out the works as per the GO 276.
The case in green tribunal, filed by opponents of the project, was only related to removal of trees on the canal under the project.
So, it was not related to carrying out the project.
But, unfortunately , Minister Muthusamy held a meeting of those who opposed the project in the collectorate on Dec 25 and invited the suggestions of them to carry out the project.
Though in the democracy, the adverse views can be sought. But, the legitimate ayacut ryots interest should be protected and the HC order should be obliged.
Above all, the MLAs and MPs of the ayacut and ayacut ryots,  of the 3 districts Erode, Karur and Tirupur were not invited to the meeting.
The collectors of Erode and Ksrur districts were also not invited.
But Namakkal Thiruchengodu MLA who is not in the ayacut was invited though he opposed the project. So, the meeting is against the HC order.
Hence the ayacut ryots association sent a legal notice to the minister, collector and WRD officials asking why contempt of Court proceedings could not be taken against them.
We want the 6.5.2023 project work given by the ofgicials and minister should be carried out as over 25000 acre in the tail end areas Mangalapatti and Manjanur etc didn't get adequate water out of 2.07 lakh acre.
In fact the GO 276 didn't have any provision to concretise the surface of the canal.
So, ground water and seepage would not be hit.
Now, only repair works in the weak spots of the 70 year old earthern bunds only proposed in the
project work.
But unfortunately it was opposed by some ryots, with the support of some DMK functionaries, he noted.
Ryots association leaders S Periyasamy, Eswaramurthy, Subbu, Shanmugasundaram and many others
were present.
