Tamil Nadu Housing Ministry S Muthusamy said that a concrete floor will be laid in LBP canal without affecting the agricultural lands getting seepage water of LBP irrigation canal.
Farmers' unions have demanded that the project be scrapped as the concrete floor of the Kizhbavani canal will prevent seepage from the canal and affect arable lands in many areas.
In this connection, the Minister inspected the Keelpavani canal in the Thoppampalayam area near the Bhavanisagar Dam on Friday. He then sought details from PWD officials and farmers.
Following this, he told reporters: The concrete floor will be laid so that the seepage in the canal would not be hit and water will reach the tail end areas of the canal easily and also the lands under the water harnessing projects.
He said that the concrete floor would not be laid on the surface of the canal but the concrete would be laid only on the bands in those places where the canal embankment would be found weak.
