Ryots oppose acquisition of agri land

A farmers' meeting held at Annoor decided to form a protest committee and stage stir in connection with the establishment of a government industrial park in Annur. The government has issued an order through the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation to acquire 3731.57 acres of agricultural land from the villages of Annoor vattam Kuppanur, Akkarai Sangpalli, Vadakallur, Pokalur and Mettupalayam vattam Iluppainantham, Pollepalayam. Mr.G.K.Nagaraj, State President of BJP Agriculture Team participated in it and said:  Agriculture is going very well in Annoor area. Farmers are doing various agricultural activities in cooperative farming system by laying boreholes and wells.

Farmers of Annoor are an example of self-reliance project. Under the Rs2000 crore Avinasi-Athikadavu project, 15 big ponds in Annoor and 117 ponds are to be filled with water. Study is on to include the remaining 150 ponds under the project in 2nd phase  to improve the water supply. In this case, setting up an industrial park in this area, which is rich in agriculture, is not appropriate.

The environment will be severely affected. The catchment and storage area of Bhavanisagar dam is 10 km away from the area where the government has issued an order for land acquisition. Industrial estate was already established at Perundurai. Cauvery and Noyal river are severely polluted by industrial estates and dyehouses in Tirupur and Coimbatore. If the industrial estate is created in Annoor, it will spoil the water supply of the entire Kongu region.

Government should reconsider

While the industrial estates already established in many districts were incomplete, construction of new industrial estates on agricultural lands will seriously affect the environment. So the government should reconsider the pla. BJP state president Mr. Annamalai supports ryots view. Realizing the impact of the environment, BJP agricultural team will fully support the farmers to save their livelihood.

The meeting decided  to form a protest committee, hold a demonstration, fast, and meet the District Collector. In this meeting Kongu Youth Council Ravikumar, BJP District President Sangeeta Gautam, Agriculture Union President Venugopal, Agriculture Union State Secretary Vijayakumar, General Secretaries  Sathyamurthy, Subhash, Head of Annur Agriculture Team Vijayakumar, Union President Thirumurthy, and  Union Councilor Mr. Jayapal participated
