Many ryots associations took out a rally at Erode against the government plan to concretise the Lower Bavani Project main canal on the fear of that it would create drinking water shortage in many villages, block ground water discharge and water shoratge for irrigation for the lands depending on the seepage water of the canal and 34 water harnessing projects in the district. They wanted the government to withdraw any plan to concretise the surface of the canal and initiate only repair works in the weak areas of the bund. The concretisaion plan was not sought by the ryots, as it would lead to felling down of thousands of trees on the bunds of the canal, leading to environment problem. Instead, the present earthern canal should be strengthened and it was already strong. They reminded the CM's poll promise of consulting ryots on the issue. But it was not done. The canal and Bavanisagar dam can be desilted, they noted. BJP farmers wing state president GK Nagaraj, KMDK general secretary and MLA Eswaran,
Keezhbavani ryots protection movement president Ravi, Small and Marginal Farmers association ptesident Sudantararasu, UCPI leader Shanmugam, The Passam Foundation functionaries and many took part in the rally. Later, they submitted a petition to the Collector.
