Dr. T.R.Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi asked sugarcane scientists to develop wonder sugarcane varieties like Co 0238 to meet the sugar and energy demands of the country.
Delivering the Inaugural address at the brainstorming session on “Sugarcane scenario: Research and Industry perspective” held at ICAR- Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore on May 10.
Dr Bakshi Ram, Former Director of ICAR-Sugarcane breeding Institute, who received the Padma shri award in the field of Science & Engineering, for developing the sugarcane variety Co 0238 which occupies over 70 % of the sugarcane area in Northern India, was felicitated during the event.
