The District Collector Mr. S .Karmegam on Wednessday started the lending process of Rs 15 lakhs for 30 persons belonging to 10 Women Self Help Groups under the Vazndhu Kattuvomm, Rurual Transformation Project Project.
The collector also as gave away enterprise expansion fund of Rs 10 lakh each for Chengandal Cultivator Producers Company operating in Attur district and Varakavalam Cultivator Producers Company operating in Omalur districtestablished through the Vazhndhu Kathum project.
The Tamil Nadu Government with the support of the World Bank through the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats , is implementing the project based on the objective ofpromoting rural industries , providing employment and financial services.
The scheme is being implemented in 154 panchayats in seven taluks in Salem District, namely Omalur , Tharamangalam , Mechery , Panamarathupatti , Veerapandi , Attur and Sangakiri in Salem district .
As a part of the project activities, a loan of Rs.30,000/- to Rs.70,000/- has been arranged through panchayat level associations in the panchayats to improve the micro-enterprises carried out by the women self-help group members and to start new micro-enterprises. Under this 303 beneficiaries have been identified in 39 panchayats in the first phase and Rs . 1.55 crore is planned to be disbursed, according to officials.
