Students from SIMATS Engineering, a Bio-Environmental Sciences
program, participated in an educational excursion to the prestigious EXNORA Foundational
Activities at Indian Maritime University. The students were led by experienced guides and
experts, who took them through a comprehensive tour of water sedimentation. The process
involves removing large particles from water, ensuring cleanliness and safety for consumption.
The students were introduced to various methods, such as sedimentation tanks and settling
basins, which facilitate the separation of suspended particles and sediments, resulting in cleaner
and clearer water. The students also gained insights into sediment types encountered in various
water sources, such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs.
The EXNORA Foundation emphasized the importance of sustainable water management
practices and the negative effects of water pollution. The trip was an enriching experience for
SIMATS students, who left with a deeper understanding of the water sedimentation process and
its role in ensuring clean and safe water for all. The students were inspired to actively contribute
to environmental conservation efforts in their future endeavors. Honorable Chancellor Dr. N M
Veeraiyan and Dr. Ramya Deepak, Director of SIMATS Engineering, continue to encourage
such educational initiatives to nurture young minds and instill a passion for environmental
science.
