Coimbatore District Collector Kranthikumar Padi inaugurated a special campaign to provide identity card, correction of Aadhaar card, voter card, medical insurance card and Ayushman Bharat cards under the Chief Minister's comprehensive insurance scheme for transgenders at the District Collector's Office on Friday.
District Social Welfare Officer Ambika, District Supply Officer Gunasekaran, Joint Director (Medical and Rural Affairs) Rajasekaran and more than 250 transgenders participated in this special camp.
He said in order to provide complete social security and social recognition to transgenders and accept them as a part of the society and registration of details of transgenders the camp was arranged.
Under the Chief Minister's Medical Insurance Scheme, treatment is covered up to Rs.5 lakh. Also, coverage up to Rs.22 lakh is provided for certain surgeries. Apart from today's camp, if 10 to 20 people in an area need assistance related to government schemes in the future, it would be arranged. If the officials are contacted and requested to set up such a camp, special camps will be conducted so that the programs implemented under all the departments can reach everyone. People should take advantage of such opportunities, he advised.
