Sports city near Chennai, new ground for AlanganallurJallikattu figure among goodies announced by CM

A new ground for Alanagannlur Jallikattu and a massive stadium cum sports city in Chennai were among the prominent facilities the Chief Minister announced in the assembly today to improve sporting in the state,
Making announcements under Rule 110 today the Chief Minister said the government wants to establish Olympic Academy in the four regions.

 The other announcements under the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare include, Stalin said that the government was offering aid and incentives uptoRs 3 crore to encourage sports men and women to win prizes internationally. To facilitate the sports men and women to take part and win in Olympics and other international level events, the government would set up world class infrastructure by developing a sports city near Chennai.

 Sports persons from Tamilnadu will be able to get international standards training at these facilties and clinch international prizes. He further said that in every assembly constituency Rs 3 crore will be spent to develop mini stadiums. Young sports men and women from poor and middle class from rural areas and town will be able to develop their talents through this facility.The government has also planned to launch the “Towards wining Gold Medal in Olympics” schem at an outlay of Rs 25 crore. North Chennai outshines in encouraging varied sporting talents. A modern boxing ring will be established there at a cost of Rs 25 crore, Stalin disclosed. Also modern facilities will be set up for developing sporting talents in shuttle cock, basketball, boxing, kabadi and other indoor sports.The Chief Minister further informed that a massive ground exclusively for Alanganallur Jallikattu will be created. 

 To encourage the growth of Tamilnadu’s marital art Silambam the sports persons will be given 3 per cent quota in government jobs. By encouraging international level sporting talents the government wants to create sports economy and steps are going on in this direction. It has been planned to hold once again the Chennai Open Tennis tournament. By conducting several national and international sports events the sports based economy will boom said the Chief Minister.


The Chief Minister further said that the Tamilnadu Government plans to conduct the 44th. World Chess Olympaid in an enviable manner. As many as 180 world chess champions will take part in the event he added.
