Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin to take part in the public meeting that has been organized to commemorate the centenary birth anniversary of DMK leader and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the city on Wednesday. Leaders of ten alliance parties to attend the meeting.
The meeting which was earlier scheduled on June 3, was postponed following the Coromandel train accident.
The state government had cancelled all the events and declared state mourning on Saturday. Subsequently, the meeting was postponed to Wednesday. Stalin is expected to deliver a special address in the meeting.
The meeting which would kick-start with the welcome address by Chennai East district secretary PK Sekar Babu, would be presided over by the general secretary Durai Murugan.
Treasurer TR Balu, principal secretary KN Nehru, deputy general secretaries I Periyasami, K Ponmudi, A Raja, Kanimozhi and Andiyur Selvaraj would lead the meeting. Stalin along with the leaders of ten alliance parties would deliver a special address. Dravida Kazhagam leader Ki Veeramani, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, Indian Union Muslim League leader KM Kadha Moideen, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader MH Jawahirullah, Kongu Nadu makkal desiya katchi general secretary Eswaran, Tamilaga Valvurimai katchi leader Vel Murugan and others are expected to grace the occasion with their presence.
Party cadres have made special arrangements for the event by placing big welcoming boards and making other decorations in Perambur locality. Stage decoration was made in a grand manner and cut-outs of Karunanidhi were placed at several places. Seating arrangements were made to accommodate thousands of cadres. Party functionaries from Kanchipuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and other districts would participate in the event. Police have been deployed in the meeting venue to prevent untoward incidents.
