Whether in power or out of power the DMK party has been vocal about the needs of Tamils. We are continuously fighting and arguing for their cause said Chief Minister M.K.Stalin,
Addressing participants of a function in the DMK head quarters in Chennai today in which 3000 people from other parties joined the DMK, the Chief Minister said, DMK is a party with 75 years history.
The party contested elections for the first time in 1957. Winning 17 seats in the first election the party won more than 50 seats in the 1962 election. In 1967 the party seized power and formed government under Anna Duria. Anna Durai was 40 years old when Anna Durai took over as the DMK party chief. During the emergency period in 1975, the DMK government was dismantled. After 13 years in 1989 the DMK came to power again. And for the sixth time it has returned to power in 2021.
We have to serve the people without thinking that being in power is a
luxury, Stalin said adding that the DMK was party that struggled for the welfare of the backward and the downtrodden people. Kalaingar Karunanidhi affiliated himself with the DMK at the age of 25 itself and served the party.
It was when Anna Durai ruled the state was re-named as Tamilnadu.
Karunanidhi argued and protested and got the Classical Language status for Tamil. " I started party word at an age of 13 by starting the DMK Youth Wing in Gopalapuram," recalled Stalin.
We have ensured that the government jobs will be given only to Tamils. Tamil language has been made compulsory for joining the all state government service. We have published books to enable conduct of worship in Tamil in temples.
The state government has issued orders that all government files should be in Tamil. Steps have
been taken to establish Tamil chairs in five South Asian universities. We have achieved in the last one year what could be achieved in 10 years said Stalin.
