Students take out a journey for unity

Over 85 students and teachers from 14 different schools took out ‘Orumai Payanam’ – a journey for unity – from Arulmigu Koniamman temple at Town Hall till Gurudwara Singh Sabha at RS Puram in the city on Wednesday. 
The rally was flagged off by V Balakrishnan, the city police commissioner.
The rally is aimed at spreading awareness on religious unity and to prevent violence against children. 
It was organized jointly by Jamaat e Islami Hind and Shanthi ashram.
Welcome speech was given by Vijayaragavan from Shanthi ashram and it was commenced by Abdul Hakkim, secretary of Jamaat e Islami Hind. 
In the event, Chanthra Mathi spoke about the history of Koniamman temple.
The participants met at Athar Jamaath Masjid at Town Hall and interacted with Imam. 
They offered silent prayer at Suparaswanath Jain temple at RG street where they interacted with saints. 
From there, they moved to St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cathedral at Town Hall before gathering at Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Podanur.
