The students and their parents have thanked the Chief Minister M.K.Stalin for sanctioning a government arts and science college at Anthiyur and thus fulfilled the long felt dream of the poor of the area.
In last year's budget, 10 colleges including one at Thalavadi and in this year's budget, another 10 including one at Anthiyur were announced.
Accordingly, 20 colleges started functioning in temporary buildings and inaugurated by the CM. In Anthiyur college 172 students joined this year. ,Girls are applying for admission to study in the college and are studying. A student Rihana from Anthiyur studied in Andhiyur Girls High School and got 481 marks in plus 2.
She joined BA (Tamil) course by remitting Rs 3130. ''My father left us. He married another. My mother is working as a laborer. My younger brother is studying plus 1. So, opening the college here is a boon for poor students like me,'' she said.
E. Pavitra, daughter of a weaver of Anthiyur Thavitpalayam, studied in the Anthiyur Govt HSS got 484 marks in Plus 2 and joined B Com in the college. "Establishing the college in the area would help poor girls like her to pursue higher studies''.
Kapilan, son of a tailor of Anthiyur Ennamangalam completed 12th in Anthiyur Govt Boys HSS and got 456 marks. He joined BA (Tamil) in the College.
He thanked the CM for establishing the college in the area to help many poor students to pursue higher studies at low cost.
