The state police on Sunday arrested a Polish national at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district for entering Indian territory without legal documents.
Based on information that an inflatable boat was found near the lighthouse at Vedaranyam, coast police rushed to the spot and recovered the boat. They had found life jackets, a travel bag, a pair of footwear and water bottles that were used in Sri Lanka, in the boat.
Subsequently, Thanjavur range DIG Kayalvizhi, Superintendent of Police (Nagapattinam) Jawahar, Superintendent of Police (Thanjavur) Suresh Kumar and other officials rushed to the spot and inspected the boat.
The police had traced the occupant of the boat - a Polish national who was hiding at a fishing hamlet near Arukattuthurai - with the help of a police dog. He was detained and taken to the police station for inquiries.
