Tax payers assn plea

Erode District Tax Payers Welfare Association president Shanmugasundaram, secretary Barathi and vice president Sakthivel submitted a petition to the housing minister S Muthusamy at Erode seeking steps to withdraw steep hike in property tax upto 150 percent considering the hardship of people for the past 2 years due to corona. 

They wanted marginal hike of tax by 5 percent every year. The present hike would not only cause much hardship to house owners but also to tenants. Both of them were burdened with steep hike in power tariff also upto 52 per cent while the prices of all essential commodities including vegetables, milk, rice, petrol, diesel, gas, rose steeply. 

But at the same time the income of the 98 percent of people who were  in unorganised 
sector did not rise considerably, they noted.
