The 99th Birth Anniversary of Late CM Karunanidhi

The 99th. birth anniversary of late Chief Minister Karunanidhi was celebrated officially by the government for the first time today.Chief Minister M.K Stalin garlanded the statue of the late Chief Minister at the Omandurar Government Estate and he also paid floral tributes to his portrait kept near the statue. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, representatives of local bodies, and officials took part in large numbers.Earlier in May this year, the Chief Minister announced that in order to give due honour to the late Chief Minister, his birth anniversary would be celebrated officially by the government. He also announced that a statue of Karunanidhi will be installed in the Omandurar Government Estate. Following the announcement, Karunanidhi's statue was opened by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on May 28 and today his 99th. Birth Day is being celebrated as a governmentfunction.CM pays tribute at Karunanidhi's memorialChief Minister 
M.K Stalin paid homage to the late Chief Minister Karunanidhi at his memorial. Ministers Durai Murugan, A.V Velu, K.N Nehru, Udhyanidhi Stalin, Kanimozhi, and Vairamuthu were among those who paid tributes. 

The Chief Minister gifted groceries to the 30 workers at the memorial. School students also paid their homage to Karunanidhi at his memorial.Speaking to media persons Kanimozhi said Karunanidhi dedicated himself to the Tamil language, its development, and the development of Tamilnadu. 

Though he is no more, he is deeply engraved in the hearts of the people. Stalin's rule is a continuance of Karunanidhi's rule she said. Cine lyricist Vairamuthu said, 
"If the person Karunanidhi had not been born 99 years ago, Tamilnadu would not have developed like this.All Tamils should hail Karunanidhi's sensibilities. As long as Tamil survives Karunanidhi will live," he said. He further opined that the Bharath Ratna award should be conferred on Karunanidhi.
