Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker M Appavu said that the state legislature is competent enough to adopt the online gambling games ban bill. Speaking to reporters, Appavu said, “We don’t know why the Governor RN Ravi has returned the online gambling games ban bill after delaying to give his assent.
The Governor could either grant his approval or seek his explanations. I don’t know how he could say that the state’s legislature lacked the competence to adopt the bill. The Tamil Nadu legislature is competent enough to adopt the bill. Then how did the Governor approve the ordinance and why is he refusing to approve the bill? The bill was drafted based on the recommendations of the committee headed by Justice Chandru. The Governor should know the Constitution. I don’t know whether he has returned the bill under pressure. The union minister himself said that the bill comes under the state subject.”
